A Muntjac deer was rescued in Wenny Road, Chatteris yesterday after it became trapped in the railings of the recreation ground.

Crew Commander Roger Nunn said the deer had been frightened by a dog in the field and in trying to escape had got itself trapped in the railings.

The crew covered the deer’s head with a blanket to help calm it down whilst they used specialist equipment called spreaders to prise the railings open to release the animal.

Commander Nunn said: “The deer didn’t appear to have any serious injuries as it ran away very quickly.”

One crew was called to the incident at 10.12am.
