Police are investigating an unprovoked attack on a man who was walking home from a firework display in Ely.

The 37-year-old victim was walking along High Barns at about 7.30pm on Saturday when he was approached by two men near the Spar shop on the corner.

One of the men pushed him to the floor and they both shouted abuse and kicked him before running off.

The victim was treated for slight injuries.

The first attacker is described as white, 5’7” to six foot, in his 20s and had short blond hair.

The second man is described as white, 5’7” to six foot, in his 20s, medium build and had short dark hair.

PC Rachel McKenzie, who is investigating, said: “This was an unprovoked and nasty attack on the victim, who had been walking home after watching a firework display.

“Anyone who thinks they may have information about who carried out this assault should not hesitate to get in touch.”
