Neale-Wade Academy’s executive principal says he is “extremely proud” of his students’ GCSE results as they opened them today.

English and mathematics results remained consistent with 57 per cent pass rate across both subjects.

Subjects that performed well include: information technology 97.5 per cent, physics 90.5 per cent, chemistry 90.5 per cent and biology 88 per cent.

“Physical education was another strength, with a pass rate of 87 per cent. Students achieved fantastic results in art and design with an 86 per cent pass, music 83 per cent and further superb results in performing arts and dance at 100 per cent and 73 per cent respectively,” a spokesman said.

Aynsley Welling, head of school, said: “I am very impressed with the efforts of our students and staff throughout the GCSE course.

“The progress that the students have made across the board in all subjects is very encouraging.”

Jason Wing, executive principal, said: “This cohort of students are the first to undertake the new style of assessment and I am extremely proud of how they have approached their GCSE examinations.

“I wish them every success in the future – well done all!”

The spokesman added: “This year, over 20 subjects were reformed in-line with English and mathematics from 2017 to achieve the Government’s desire to make GCSE examinations more challenging and rigorous.

“Coursework has been removed from most subjects and students are judged against their performance in terminal examination papers. Despite these changes, Neale-Wade Academy students have risen to the challenge, demonstrating resilience and desire to succeed.”

Katie Chegwidden and Emma Harte, Year 11 progress leaders, said: “We are incredibly proud of how well our year 11’s have achieved in their GCSEs. They have worked tirelessly over the last two years despite some challenges faced as a year group.

“We wish them all the best for their future and after five years working together we shall miss them all.”

Gary Peile, chief executive of The Active Learning Trust, said: “It is great, once again, to be able to celebrate some great results from the students at the Neale-Wade Academy.

“At a time when the new GCSEs are more rigorous, the students at the academy are to be congratulated at their achievements.

“I would like to thank the staff at Neale-Wade for their tremendous support in a year of change and to celebrate the breadth of exams taken this year, which shows the commitment of Neale-Wade to a broad and balanced curriculum offer for the students.”

The following students achieved excellent results in all of their subjects and from their full suite of qualifications include:
