FENLAND District Council has appointed a new ASBO case worker, Phillip Brown, to address anti-social behaviour issues across Fenland.

Phillip, a former Metropolitan Police officer working out of King's Cross, joins the council from Circle Anglia, a housing association, where he was responsible for tackling anti-social behaviour issues with tenants across East Anglia.

In his new role, he will act as the link between the council, the multi-agency Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and the community.

Although the council is already a member of the partnership, the new post will mean a more rapid and direct response can be applied to trouble spots and potential trouble spots.

Phillip is the first of three posts that will be in place later in the autumn. The other appointments are for a street scene liaison manager and a street scene compliance officer. All three posts are designed to enhance a more joined-up approach to dealing with, and preventing, anti-social behaviour problems.

Phillip has taken more than 50 case files from the partnership and is already busy working with individuals in the community to reduce their behaviour problems. He has also taken on the chairmanship of two problem solving groups in March and Wisbech.

Councillor Fred Yeulett, portfolio holder for enforcement, said: "Only by working with all the relevant agencies involved in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour are we going to be able to make a major impact. This new post, and the two that will soon follow, are a clear indication of our commitment to joined-up local government in dealing with this issue.
