New High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire installed in ceremony at Fenland church

FORMER Mayor of Wisbech Richard Barnwell has been installed as the new High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire after a ceremony yesterday.

Outgoing High Sheriff, Nigel Brown, installed Mr Barnwell in the role during the ceremony at St Peter’s Church, in Wisbech.

Mr Barnwell, a former town, district and county councillor, lives in Wisbech with his wife Beverly.

He has also been chairman of the Fens Youth Trust, Wisbech Society and Preservation Trust, Wisbech and Fenland Museum, Wisbech Tourism Group, Wisbech and Fenland Museum Friends, Trustee of the Octavia Hill Birthplace Museum, The Wisbech Regeneration Partnership, East of England Agricultural Society, The Victoria County History Trust and other charitable bodies.

Richard’s business interests are Messrs Clifford Cross Auctions in Wisbech, and farms in Northamptonshire. His hobbies include shooting, fishing and garden restoration.
