COUNTY Councillor Mac McGuire cut a tape to open a new £850,000 link road, which will take traffic away from March town centre.

The new road was built by Cambridgeshire County Council and links Melbourne Avenue, off the Hostmoor Avenue industrial area, to Hundred Road.

It serves the Whitemoor Marshalling Yards and will improve access to the industrial estates in and around the Hostmoor and Hundred Road area.

The scheme includes a new roundabout on Hundred Road and a new single carriageway with a pedestrian path alongside.

Fenland District and Cambridgeshire County Councillor John West, who attended the road opening, said: "March residents will benefit by seeing less Heavy Goods Vehicles using their roads.

"The businesses and lorry drivers themselves will benefit by having a quicker and more direct route to use for their day-to-day business.
