A NEW multi-million wind farm in the Fens went live this week and will produce enough green electricity to power more than 9,000 homes a year.
The nine turbines at the Stag's Holt Wind Farm, near March, have each completed a 10-day test run, and have now been given the all clear to produce electricity.
Planning consent was granted by Fenland District Council in mid 2002 and work on the farm began in earnest last autumn.
The turbines each stand 100m tall.
Adrian Chatterton, head of construction for E.ON UK, said:" We're delighted to announce that the wind farm is now fully operational and generating clean, green renewable energy.
"The team has worked very hard to get the project up and running and we're confident that Stag's Holt will make an important contribution to the government's challenging renewable energy targets."
The scheme is expected save around 20,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
E.ON is has 21 wind across the UK and Ireland, this is the first it has opened in Cambridgeshire.
An official opening of the site is expected to take place in November
