With roads already congested because of repair work where better than in March High Street for an eclectic collection of vintage steam engines and historic cars to stop off for a pint?

Nigel Marsh, landlord of Georges, clearly felt so as he played impromptu host to some of the many assorted vehicles gathering for a weekend rally at the showground on the outskirts of town.

Wherever they could, they parked. Down side roads, in narrow passageways or for the bigger steam engines on the road.

Not that anyone seemed to mind – a glorious day, the heat of summer, and most people content to laze and watch the world stop by.

“Not the best place to park the steam engine causing even more congestion,” said one critic via Facebook.

One contented visitor posted: “You always get the moody ones that can’t be pleased but people are happy and having fun. We came with the cars and had a great time!”
