Crowds flocked to the banks of The Bower in Whittlesey for the mayor’s annual charity duck race on bank holiday Monday.
One thousand ducks were sold helping the mayor, Councillor Alex Miscandlon, raise money for three chosen charities.
The charities that will benefit from the fundraiser are: Nogain Nopain UK, Whittlesey Warriors netball team and Whittlesey Manor Dolphins swimming club.
“At 2pm the ducks were released from Briggate Bridge into the river and with a helping blast from the firemen’s hoses, were coaxed down stream, through canal turn to the waiting judges at the finishing boat,” said Cllr Miscandlon.
“The wining owner was there to cheer his duck across the line, unexpectedly the second win in the last four runnings of the event.
The winners were:
1st Duck No 626 owned by Ben Coxall
2nd Duck No 89 owned by Kira March
3rd Duck No 211 owned by Gwen White
