A house in Whittlesey that had become a magnet for anti-social behaviour, including drinks and drug abuse, has been shut for three months by a court.

Numerous complains had been made about 113 Snoots Road, including youths drinking, playing loud music and shouting into the early hours of the morning.

Elderly neighbours were woken and distressed by the noise which had been a problem since early November last year.

Despite warnings by police, no improvement was made and a closure notice was authorised and served on the premises on March 4.

On Thursday (March 19), the closure order was granted for three months for persistent nuisance anti-social behaviour at King’s Lynn Magistrates Court.

Sergeant Dave Bax worked with Rob Mitchell at Fenland District Council’s anti-social behaviour team to secure the order.

Sgt Bax said: “This premises was given warnings by officers but several days after one we were called to a report of noise and found 18 youths in the premises, signs of alcohol abuse and the smell of drugs.

“Anti-social behaviour blights communities and is a threat to residents who are caused harm by the mindless actions of others.

“We are grateful to the neighbours who attended the hearing and gave evidence about the premises and the effect it had had on their lives.

“If anyone enters the premises now they could be arrested and face a fine, imprisonment or both. I hope this sends out a strong message that the police and district council will not stand by and tolerate anti social behaviour.”
