BARBECUES may be a way of life in the 21st century but they were a special occasion back in 1960.
In our issue of February 3 we featured a picture of a fund-raising barbecue organised by Three Holes and Lakesend Conservatives.
More than 400 people attended the popular event and watched as MP Denys Bullard showed off his skills with a carving knife.
Phyllis Webb of Emneth contacted us to say she is on the photograph and could put names to all the faces. She named (left to right) Mrs Thorpe, Edna Feary, Lily Warby, Daisy Jermey, Elsie Ellington, Denys Bullard, Betty Dorling, June Johnson, PhyllisWebb, Evelyn Forth and Albert Feary.
A fox called Oedipus made a big impact on pupils at March Hereward School in 1966 when the school became its home.
A photograph of the fox and its carers also appeared in our February 3 issue and we asked if anyone could put names to faces or could tell us what happened to the fox.
Albert Fox of March contacted us to say his son Rodney is on the picture and was one of those who took a keen interest in looking after the wounded animal. Mr Fox said although they enjoyed caring for the animal, Oedipus was eventually given to Exeter Zoo. He said the animal became quite vicious but could not be released into the wild so a zoo was thought to be the best option.
Tony Walker of March is also on the picture and he could name Chris Rowley and John Templeman. John's daughter, Leah of Chatteris, contacted us to say she recognised her dad who now lives at Guyhirn.
