The 15-year-old in this picture taken in 1955 was stock car mad but was stopped in his tracks by red tape which prevented him from racing.

In a bid to convince his family that he was deadly serious, the Upwell teenager bought a 23-year-old wreck of a car for £10 and with the help of his dad transformed it over a period of three months into a mean racing machine.

But disaster struck when he was told he was too young to race - the minimum age for a driver being 17.

But the youngster refused to give up and recruited a driver from Sutton Bridge called John 'Crazy' Cootes to race his car until he was old enough to take over.

Can you name the stock car mad teenager? Did he go on to race the car when he reached the grand old age of 17?
