An accident involving a lorry led to the closure of a notorious road near Littleport last night (Wednesday).
Police and highways officials closed Branch Bank, a busy route which runs between between the B1382, in Queen Adelaide, and Victoria Street, in Littleport.
The accident involved a lorry and recovery crews were called to the scene. There were no reports of any injuries.
The road – and in particular its junction with Sandhill and New River Bank - has been the subject of a safety campaign in recent months, with Littleport resident Courtney Pettifor collecting hundreds of signatures on a petition calling for traffic calming measures to be installed.
The move came following the deaths of Christie-Joe Couzens, 22, and Jack Ure, 18, on the stretch of road last year.
Littleport Parish Council has a special working party dedicated to coming up with solutions to the problem while MP Steve Barclay visited the scene earlier this month with officials from Cambridgeshire County Council to see what action could be taken.
