A FUNERAL service for mother-of-two Linda Mills was held at St Peter's Church, March, on Friday.Mrs Mills, 53, of Norico Bay, March, died on February 6 at Peterborough District Hospital after fighting myeloma, cancer of the bone marrow plasma cells, for eight years. She spent her early life in Chatteris with her parents Maurice and Brenda Hall, brothers Peter and David, and her sister Carol. She attended Burnsfield, King Edward and Cromwell Schools.At school she excelled at athletics, winning many races and the Victrix Ludorum title. After leaving Cromwell she completed a secretarial course at the Isle College, Wisbech.For six months she worked at Cawoods, March, before becoming a secretary at Stainless Metalcraft, Chatteris, working in its offices from 1971 until 1986 when she left to become a mother.She leaves husband Les, and two sons, Andrew, 19, and Stuart, 16. With all three being enthusiastic cricketers, Mrs Mills spent many hours at March Town Cricket Club. At the club's annual meeting in January along with four other women she was made an honorary vice-president for her services to the ladies' section.While undergoing cancer treatment she received a stem cell transplant. In 1999, she organised a barbecue at the cricket club, raising more than £2,000 for the transplant unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.Mr and Mrs Mills celebrated their silver wedding anniversary three years ago when the family enjoyed the holiday of a lifetime at the Cricket World Cup in South Africa.In 2004, Mrs Mills organised another charity event at the Oliver Cromwell Hotel which raised more than £3,000 for Clinic 8 (cancer unit) at Peterborough District Hospital.
