Older people are being given the chance to exchange their old electric blankets for new ones at a Golden Age event in Leverington tomorrow (Thursday October 15).
Anyone aged over 65 can take advantage of the free swap offer, which has been organised by Fenland District Council and Cambridgeshire’s Fire & Rescue Service (CFRS).
The new blankets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis by CFRS volunteers, who will also give general advice on fire safety. Faulty electric blankets are known to be a significant fire risk.
The event is at Leverington Village Hall tomorrow morning (10am-1pm). Other organisations taking part include the local Friendship Club, Circle Roddons, Age UK Cambridgeshire and Care Network.
New Vision Fitness staff will be carrying out mini health checks and the Fenland Ferret will be there to give advice on benefits to which older people may be entitled.
