Children are being encouraged to hang their wishes on a tree to raise money for a Fenland charity - with the winning wish being made into a prize.

Specsavers, in Wisbech, is aiming to make one child’s wish come true through its wishing tree, which is raising money for A Local Wish.

Youngsters can hang their personal wishes on the tree in the Market Place opticians, in exchange for a small donation.

The winning wish, chosen by staff from the store, will be brought to life by Specsavers Wisbech and the donations received by residents.

Store director Mike Avery said: “As one of the main sponsors for this year’s activity, we are really looking forward to making a local child’s wish come true.

“It’s for a great cause and I hope we receive plenty of donations which will help provide a local child with a truly unforgettable experience.”

The tree is in the store until next Monday (July 14).

A Local Wish aims to raise funds and provide support for underprivileged children and families in Fenland.

It celebrated its one-year anniversary with a grand event last month at Wisbech Rugby Club, which included an array of fundraising activities including a strong man competition, various games for children and a barbecue.
