One of four young people involved in the theft of a motor bike in Wisbech broke his leg when he crashed it into a wall in a nearby street.
The youth was among those arrested and charged following the theft of the motor bike on Sunday night.
The bike belonged to a local factory worker who had saved £1,500 to buy the Suzuki but had only passed his test earlier this month so that he could take it on the road.
“To say I’m gutted is an understatement,” he said. “I’ve got the bike back but it’s a write off. I’ll now have to discuss with the insurance company where we go from here.”
Police confirmed the theft of the bike from a driveway in Boyces Road at around 10.30pm on Sunday.
A spokesman said: “It was then involved in a minor collision in Bath Road. Four youths aged 18, two 16 and one 15, have been arrested in connection and bailed until September 24.”
