An open meeting will be held later this month as campaigners continue to fight a proposed 249 houses development in their town.

The Showfield Action Group is vehemently opposed to development on the Showfield site to the north of Whittlesey.

A planning application was rejected by both Whittlesey Town Council and Fenland District Council in December 2013 but the developer has launched an appeal, which will be heard at Fenland Hall between September 23-26.

The open meeting is scheduled for 7pm on Wednesday, September 24 at the Manor Leisure Centre in Whittlesey.

All present will be able to speak and written statements will be submitted to the planning inspector.

Ashley Jones, chairman of the Action Group, said: “We will be presenting witness evidence at the hearing on flooding, ecology and amenity issues.

“We have limited our evidence to these areas as we have finite funds available but it doesn’t mean we don’t have objections on other issues such as highways and visual impact. We are sure these will be raised during the hearing.

“We urge all those who object to the development of Showfield to attend the open evening to make their voice heard.”
