Members of Outwell’s St Clement’s Church hope to have enlisted the support of local MP Elizabeth Truss in their campaign to raise funds.

Ms Truss, MP for South West Norfolk, visited the church at the invitation of the parochial church council on Tuesday and was treated to a tour of the historic building.

The visit enabled the church council to explain the need to raise money to conserve and restore the building, some of which dates back to the 14th century, particularly its unique roof wood carvings and roof structure.

It is hoped Ms Truss will offer her support to the St Clement’s bid for money the government has said will be available from next month for the repair of church roofs.

Janet Edgson, churchwarden, said: “We really welcome Ms Truss’s interest and hope that she is able to support our efforts to restore our beautiful mediaeval church, so that it can continue to be an important part of community life, as well as a fine example of the historical importance of the church not only to the village but also to a much wider audience.”
