Sunshine helped make the annual Chatteris Summer Festival a sparkling success with over 500 people taking part in the walk parade.
This year had animals as its theme and real life camels led the parade through the town centre with ponies bringing up the rear.
In between were hundreds of people, mainly youngsters from the town’s schools, dressed as a veritable menagerie of creatures from giraffes to elephants and monkeys.
The afternoon’s events on Saturday continued with the animal theme with a chance for the crowds to get up close and personal with some exotic animals in the main ring.
entertainment included live music from Manea Silver Band, a samba band as well as performances from two majorette sides and Rascals Theatricals.
Children also had a chance to participate in a series of sports day races and party in the park with a live accoustic session ended the day.
Sunday saw the annual dog show and dog agility demonstrations, strawberry teas and zumba dancing.
There was also a competitive ‘wipe out’ inflatable course which saw children and adults hurl themselves across the course - with not all of them reaching the end!
Before Saturday’s fun there was a successful cabaret and burlesque evening with Perry and Laura Dennis providing the entertainment.
School children had also enjoyed a Chatteris Myth and Memory event held on the Thursday organised by 20Twenty Productions which proved hugely popular and finished with a performance from the work carried out during the day.
Jo Melton, town clerk, said they were delighted with this year’s summer festival.
“It was really good. It was great to see so many people getting involved in the parade, the number of different animal costumes was amazing.
“We would like to thank all the volunteers who worked so hard to ensure the parade went off without a hitch - it is a big task organising so many people and of course camels and ponies too.
“Luckily both the camels and the ponies were all well behaved and everything went really smoothly and the crowds lining the streets really enjoyed the spectacle. All in all it was very successful festival this year.”
