BEFORE the July meeting of the Parish Council, held at St Andrew's Church, members were addressed by Councillor D Pope about various issues, procedures and requirements for the new car park at Upwell Health Centre accommodating 49 more spaces. The council will pay its allotted share for the maintenance of this amenity annually. Councillors were told that a new mini roundabout has been proposed by Norfolk County Council for the A1122 at the top of Hall Road, Scotts Bridge. The council is concerned that large vehicles are going to find this hard to negotiate to gain access from Isle Road A1101 towards Downham Market. This matter has been forwarded to the county council in the hope that a better system can be put into place. A request for a donation was made by St Andrew's Church to help towards the cost of running a holiday club during the summer holidays for local primary school children. This was agreed and a £50 donation will be forwarded. Councillor P Brenchley reported that the laying of the wooden flooring at the village hall should be completed soon. The committee is still looking at ways for funding. Again they request that anyone whom is interested in donating should get in touch. The committee needs chairs and tables and are hoping that there is a generous benefactor that might be able to help. Any donation would be gratefully received and then the hall can open. Councillor Brenchley also reported matters from Beaupre School. He is the new representative from the council on the board of governors. The school has been allocated about £15,000 of external funding from Travel Policy for Safer routes to school. Initial projects are to demolish cycle shed and sheds and replace with new cycle shed and a designated covered waiting area for parents.
