AT the latest Parish Council meeting, chaired by Councillor John Wake, it was reported that Basin Road had a new speed limit and weight limits implemented. Upwell Parish Council wants to join forces with Outwell to combat vandalism and crime in both villages. Two representatives from the council will meet representatives from Upwell to discuss this. Councillor Paul Brenchley reported that Beaupre School was looking at ways to ease congestion at Church Drove near the school. It was suggested that 'Safer Routes to School' is implemented. This involves a 'walking bus' of children with adult supervision. The suggestion was that children be dropped at the playing field car park and then walked to and from the school. The problem is crossing a busy main road. The county highways department is to be asked if a crossing can be situated in a suitable spot. Cllr Brenchley also reported that since the headlines in the local paper of vandalism occurring at the village hall seven people had received formal warnings from the police. It was noted that the village hall committee is applying for a premises licence. Next parish council meeting: March 6, St Andrew's Church (7pm).
