BEFORE the latest parish council meeting, Insp Bates explained to members the constraints under which the police have to work and the need to prioritise crimes. However, with the plans for PCSOs and neighbourhood policing policies he hoped there would be a stronger presence in the villages. The council considered its budget requirement for the coming year and made a request for £28,000 to cover the expenses for 2007/8. A grant of £3,000 has been awarded to the council by WREN to help with provision of a further section of steel fencing along the Churchgateway boundary of the Memorial Field. The clerk had toured the village roads with the area highways engineer and noted the potholes, broken edges, areas of road flooding and other causes for concern and it is hoped that remedial work on these will be carried out soon. A meeting involving parish councillors, young people and parishioners has been held to look into what the young people consider would provide them with facilities for recreation, especially a skateboard facility. The parish council agreed to support the project. The council has altered the date for the annual parish assembly meeting, which will now take place on Wednesday, April 18.
