PECKOVER House in Wisbech is looking to recruit new volunteers for next month’s season launch.

The 18th century National Trust home on North Brink, Wisbech is preparing to open its doors for the new season on March 2, but is short of helpers.

The home is particularly keen to hire room stewards, pianists and helpers in the tea room.

Property Secretary, Paula Arnold said, “Peckover is very fortunate in having many excellent volunteers, who are great ambassadors for us and for the National Trust, but we need a few more for this season.

“If you are looking to develop new skills, make new friends and share your experience, we would love to hear from you.”

Peckover House, built in 1722, is a classic Georgian merchant’s town house where the Peckover’s, a family of successful bankers, lived for 150 years.

Originally known as Bank House, the property was donated to The National Trust in 1948 by Alexandrina Peckover, daughter of Lord Peckover of Wisbech.

As well as the house and garden, she also donated an estate of 48 acres, now used principally as the town’s playing fields.

Volunteers are expected to spare at least one weekend day a fortnight,
