Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault which left a man with serious injuries in Elm, near Wisbech.

The attack on the 40-year-old happened on Friday (April 4) at just after 7pm in Low Road.

Officers believe the assault may be linked to an argument the victim had in the Elm Tree pub some time earlier.

The victim was kicked and punched by five men and suffered serious but not life threatening injuries, which were treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

DC Rachel Weeks said: β€œIt was daylight and there would have been people around when this nasty assault took place so I would urge them to get in touch.”

Anyone with information should contact DC Weeks on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault and released on police bail to return on May 23.
