Reports of a domestic incident led police to close a Fenland road off for several hours earlier today,

Police arrived at 3,40am at a house on Withington Street, Sutton Bridge following an emergency phone call.

“Withington Street has been cordoned off. No-one has been injured and the general public are not in any danger,” said the first release from Lincs police.

Later a spokesman revealed that the “incident has now been resolved and police officers and staff have left the scene.

“We were initially called to a domestic incident where threats of serious violence had allegedly been made against people who had earlier been in a house on the street.

“Our inquiries so far have established that the situation was not as first reported and this has resulted in the downgrading of our resources in the area. Further enquiries into all the circumstances will continue.”

The spokesman added: “We can confirm that no-one has been injured and no-one has been arrested. We would like to thank the residents of Sutton Bridge for their patience during the course of the incident.

“From the information we received in the first instance it was appropriate that we treated the incident very seriously. Our main aim throughout was to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those involved and that of the wider public.”

Police confirmed their investigation “is continuing and beyond what is outlined above we cannot provide any further information”.
