THREATENED gang warfare between teenage mods and rockers from March, Ely and Peterborough led to March police taking special precautions.
They used police dog patrols for the first time in spring of 1966 when residents of March were worried after trouble at weekends in the Darthill Road and Station Road areas and at the railway station itself.
British Transport police were also called in at weekends to stop any fights between rival gangs.
Chief Supt Gray said: "Now that we have an amalgamated force we have greater facilities to draw upon, and full use will be made of the dogs to preserve the peace.
