SO, police couldn’t intervene to stop the rave and prevent further damage to Mr Finn’s property, due to lack of man power and for public safety reasons.

Well... here is a question that SHOULD be asked of police. What efforts were made to protect the public, remember, on the reason of public safety, to stop the drivers from driving home after the event?

If drug and alcohol use was evident at the event, police should have made a decision to carry out roadside breath tests for the revellers when entering their cars to return home. Thus resulting in arrests and maybe some comfort to Mr Finn that the revellers were punished in another way.

I have read the court pages for 20+ years in the local newspaper, there have been occasions when people quite innocently sleep in their car, after having a drink, say after an argument with their partner, all quite innocently. These people get charged for drink driving, but have no intention of actually driving on the road.

Police had every opportunity with these scumbags to punish them in one way or another, did they turn a blind eye to all these people driving under the influence of drink and drugs?

Had police been clever about this (we all know its about statistics) they could have exceeded their targets for catching drink drivers for the Christmas period just in one night... using those idiotic ‘revellers’ who quite frankly knowingly would have driven home under the influence. But then again, I don’t suppose we would have had the capacity in the cells for that neither.

Why is it that other police forces use their powers to draft in extra resources from other police stations? Could we have not pulled in a favour?

I expect half of these cars were uninsured, or not roadworthy, or had no tax. If police COULD have been bothered to at least punish these idiots for other offences, the revenue might have contributed to the cost of policing an operation.

Also, 12 hours later after the revellers had ‘come down’, they wouldn’t have been fit nor strong enough to argue with police. This would have been an ideal opportunity to identify a lot of these people and charge them in some way. On the spot fines! I haven’t seen anything published by the police about whether any arrests or fines were handed out.

Did anybody even think to perhaps take photographs of cars, registration plates and faces? Lazy policing, or police without the ability to think outside of the box.

Had there have been a collision on the roads caused by these idiots, I’m sure police would have found the resources to attend, lots of police cars, a couple of ambulances a couple of fire engines. I don’t know, have people forgotten that old saying ‘prevention is better than cure’?

Maybe this did happen the following morning. All I can go by is what is written in the paper and what was heard on the news.

Resources, resources, resources... not enough, not enough, not enough....

I do agree that the rave should have been allowed to continue for the reasons given, but the police had 10/12 hours to put something into operation the next day to punish these criminals for other offences, public order as a minimum.

At least Mr Finn may have received some compensation knowing police intended to punish for an associated crime.
