Three men were arrested in Chatteris last night during a busy night for Fenland police that saw a total of nine people taken into custody.

Police said the nine arrests ranged from assault, criminal damage, being drunk and disorderly to a domestic incident.

A force spokesman posted on Twitter that the arrests in Chatteris followed reports of criminal damage at the Conservative Club.

“Drink seems to be a common cause of all issues tonight,” said the spokesman.

One tweet from the Fens police said: “Lots of public order incidents already tonight and its only 11.30pm. Enjoy your night but let’s not fight.” It was, reminded the spokesman, a Bank Holiday weekend so “stay safe”.
