Police seized this powerful catapult after a young person was seen carrying it on CCTV.

Officers were sent to the Waterlees play park yesterday afternoon after the weapon was spotted by a council CCTV operator.

They later tweeted: “Male seen by @FenlandCSP @FenlandCouncil CCTV in Waterlees play park to be carrying this. Item seized from male #partnershipworking.” The catapult has been fashioned from brass forks a bone and wooden hand grip and strong latex rubbers.

Similar weapons, which can fire ball bearings, have been used by generations by poachers to take pheasants and other game birds silently.

No-one was arrested or charged in connection with the incident.

A spokesman at Cambridgeshire police’s HQ later said: “The item was seized and the teenage boy carrying it was given words of advice.”
