POLICE caught four burglars only minutes after they broke into a March home three days after Christmas Inside the house in Cavalry Drive officers found 23-year-old Ricky Neilson, along with a 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds, who had got inside by forcing a conservatory door.A crowbar fell from the clothing of one the burglars as he was placed on the ground, Fenland magistrates were told on Wednesday.A police baton was used during the arrest, when an officer spotted a shiny object that turned out to be a wood chisel, and all four were detained. One of the teenagers had keys from the property.Neilson, of The Causeway, March, and the three teenagers, from Doddington, Wimblington and March, all admitted burglary and stealing three keys. One of the 16-year-olds asked for three other offences to be taken into consideration, including a burglary at Wood Street, Doddington, on Boxing Day, taking a car without the owner's consent, and stealing a games machine and a wallet from another car. The 15-year-old also admitted possessing herbal cannabis on December 28.Prosecutor Craig McDougall said police received a call from a member of the public at 7.09pm on December 28, saying a burglary was in progress. The four burglars were still at the property. No one admitted forcing the door but they did admit they had intended to steal.Solicitor John Clarke, representing Neilson and two of the teenagers, told the court: "It was a spur of the moment joint enterprise. "The idea was thought up by one of them as they passed the house. They followed each other round the back and broke the door."Neilson had the crowbar, he said. Someone had handed it to him in the dark just seconds before the police arrived, and he was "left holding the baby".Neilson was sent to Cambridge Crown Court for sentencing. Magistrates ordered a pre-sentence report on the teenagers, and they are due to be sentenced by the youth court on February 3. All were granted conditional bail.
