MARCH Wildlife Group has cancelled its annual pond dipping event at Rings End Nature Reserve due to the lack of rain coupled with the exceptionally hot weather. The event was due to take place this Sunday.

The ponds at the reserve have "pretty well dried out", said Roy Thacker, of MWG." This is the first time we have had to cancel the event and it's a real shame because so many children enjoy it."

The pond dipping was to be the last event at the reserve this summer.
