'MARCH - Past and Present: An introduction to a Fen Market Town' is the title of a new book by historian Trevor Bevis.

Half the contents are devoted to what has happened in March over the centuries; the rest relates to the town in more modern times, developing around the railway.

The book gives a list of societies and clubs and the 15 colour photographs show the attractions of the town and surrounding area. Line drawings by the author show how the town looked more than a century ago.

Apart from the local interest, Mr Bevis, of St Peters Road, March, says the book will be particularly useful to anyone contemplating settling in the area.

"Every town should offer publications of an introductory nature especially with tourism in mind," he said. "Holidays at home are likely to become even more popular being less expensive and stressful than going abroad, and with hotter summers forecast.

"The Fens have much to offer and every advantage should be taken of this rapidly growing industry. March is centrally situated for touring a fascinating landscape with a uniquely rich history."
