A machine capable of repairing up to 150 potholes a day is heading to Fenland.
Cambridgeshire County Council says its ‘dragon patcher’ will make a rapid difference to the state of Fen roads.
County councillor Dave Connor said he was delighted the new machine was heading this way.
He said councillors had been invited to the Melbourne Avenue highways depot on February 19 to see it arrive and get ready for the work ahead.
“It’s a first rate bit of kit,” said Cllr Connor who has been among those campaigning for pothole repairs in the Fenland area.
A county council spokesman said: “Keeping Cambridgeshire moving and maintaining our highways is a top priority for us.
“We have some really innovative ways of filling potholes, for example our ‘dragon patcher’ which is much more efficient, can repair up to 150 potholes a day and is faster and quieter than traditional methods.”
The spokesman said it was nicknamed the dragon “because it fires out flames to dry out the road surface”.
It is then cleaned with compressed air and sealed with a stone mix and hot bitumen.
“It is around five times faster than traditional methods,” said the spokesman.
“It is also mobile which is particularly good for rural areas and can do more work for the money.”
The dragon patcher is currently in South Cambridgeshire before heading to the Fens “to help improve the quality of the roads in this area”.
