DODDINGTON Horticultural Society's 60th annual summer show, held in the village hall on Saturday, was opened by Amelia Reynolds, newsreader on Look East, who also presented the prizes.

A large range of produce, both fruit and vegetable, was entered for competition, supported by flowers, art, cookery and handicrafts and a comprehensive junior section.

There were 467 adult entries and 355 children's entries, a total of 822 and an increase of 32 on last year.

DT Flowers of Doddington donated a silver tray for the 60th show for the best flower/plant in show. This was won by Karen Watson.

Judges: Handicrafts and children's work, Mrs Z Richardson and Mrs Long of March; cookery and preserves, Mrs J Tounsin and Mrs Higgs of Sutton; flowers, J Overvorde of Doddington; fruit and vegetables, Mr and Mrs G Frost of March; floral art, Mrs B Bradshaw and Mrs L Smith of March; art, K Cheale of March.

The main prize draw for £100 was won by Yvonne Walsh of Doddington and about 30 other prizes were won. Winner of the 'number of sweets in a tin' competition (247) was Doreen Davis of Doddington. The 'dog's birthday' was April 12 and this competition was won by C Beart. The week's holiday in Wales was won by Linda Smith of March.

Adult with most points overall for the Olive and Bill Dickerson Shield was Christine Beart with 755 points. The child with most points for the Emmett Family shield was Lucy Howard with 245 points.

The Garden News Top Vase awards were won by Lucy Howard (£10 voucher); Christine Beart (£5 voucher) and, in third place, Karen Watson (£3 voucher).
