THE May meeting of Chatteris and District Probus Club was opened by chairman Reg Wenn with 55 members and two visitors present. A minute s silence was observed for member Councillor Peter Dickinson who had died. Speaker Richard Powell returned to continue

THE May meeting of Chatteris and District Probus Club was opened by chairman Reg Wenn with 55 members and two visitors present. A minute's silence was observed for member Councillor Peter Dickinson who had died.

Speaker Richard Powell returned to continue the story of his involvement with military music. He has worked with all the big regiments during his career and played music by these military bands. He was presented with a bottle of wine.

Visitors Brian Sadler and Gary Workman were introduced. The monthly draw was won by Alf Beezley, Eddy Samuels and John Negus. Fred Watt gave the welfare report and paid tribute to Peter Dickinson, and reported on other members who were unwell.

Terence Shad gave the social report, and said the trip on the Norfolk Broads was now full. Members were reminded of the quiz night and supper on Thursday May 25 at the Working Men's Club. There will be a Bowls Match on June 19 at Chatteris starting at 6.30pm.

Council and police reports were given by Colin Greenwood and Mr Wenn reminded members of a meeting at Doddington Hospital on May 24 (4pm).

At the next meeting, on June 12, speaker will be Paul Harrington on 'Birds at the Ouse Wash Reserve'.
