CHATTERIS and District Probus Club held its September meeting at the Working Men's Club with 50 members present. Chairman Reg Wenn introduced the speaker, Lieutenant Commander Charles Pickering, RN Retired. His topic was 'A Breath of Sea Air'.

The monthly competition was conducted by Fred Watt. Winners were P Boggis, D Broughton and D Herman. Mr Watt went on to give the welfare report and presented George Green with a wedding anniversary card.

Social secretary Terry Shad reported he would bring a new format for the 2007 social calendar; a print out of his proposals will be out at the next meeting.

Brian Higgs gave the council report saying the town council had received a bill for £1,000 from Fenland District Council for the use of the bandstand on Market Hill where the summer fun days were held.

The chairman gave a progress report on the future of Doddington Hospital.

At the next meeting, on Monday, October 10, the speaker will be Richard Munns, on the history of March marshalling yards.
