A MAN who carried out four burglaries in eight days has been jailed for almost three years.

Amjad Khan admitted getting into homes in Peterborough between September and September 27 this year.

He stole various electrical goods from the homes in Burmer Road, Alexandra Road, Vere Road and Shakespeare Avenue. The items included TVs, laptop computers and mobile phones, as well as jewellery, documents and bank cards.

Yesterday (December 2), he was jailed for two years and nine months at Peterborough Crown Court by Judge Sean Enright.

Pc Neil Addison, who investigated the case, said: “Khan was a prolific burglar who was raiding lots of homes in a short period of time. This conviction was Khan’s third strike and the length of his sentence reflects this.

“Burglary can have a huge impact on victims and is treated very seriously by police and the courts.”

Khan, 26, of Clarence Road, Peterborough, was arrested on October 1 in Lincoln Road, Millfield, and charged with the burglaries at Burmer Road and Bourges Boulevard. He initially denied both but later pleaded guilty to the former, while the latter was eventually dropped.

At court, Khan also asked for the burglaries in Alexandra Road, on September 20, Vere Road, on September 21, and Shakespeare Avenue, on September 27, to be taken into account.

Police linked Khan to the Burmer Road burglary, which happened on September 24, after being called on the same day to another suspected break-in at a property in Bourges Boulevard. Here they discovered bank cards that had been stolen in the Burmer Road raid bearing Khan’s fingerprints.

Property stolen was also tracked down to a second hand shop in Peterborough that had been sold the goods on the same day as the burglary.
