Pub company steps in to foot bill and stave off threatened action over historic wall

A PUB company has agreed to foot the bill to repair a historic wall it owns in Whittlesey.
Unique Pub Properties told Fenland Council it would pay for the repairs following a protracted dispute over whether the tenant of the Black Bull was technically responsible.
The council argued the mud wall which forms part of the pub boundary in Mark Street should be the responsibility of the owners and threatened legal action to get the work carried out.
However enforcement action, threatened in a report to the council’s planning committee last Wednesday, has been postponed.
Councillors heard Unique Pub Properties would now foot the bill and so deferred any further action for at least two months.
The wall has been on the ‘buildings at risk’ register for a few years.
