Fenland District Council has launched a comprehensive two-week consultation programme to give local people an input into the type and location of a brand new bandstand in West End Park in March.

Information about the bandstand plans will go on display in March Town Hall for two weeks, from Monday (17th September).

The Council has allocated £40,000 from its Capital Fund to build a bandstand as a venue for open air performances to take place.

The people of March and potential performers will be given the option of three styles of bandstand in three areas of the park. The three potential sites are:

l The existing cobbled bandstand area adjacent to the George Campbell Leisure Centre, close to the skatepark.

l South of Marylebone Footbridge.

l North of The Chase and west of the children's play area.

Detailed information on the plans and sites will be available at an exhibition in the Town Hall and people are invited to complete a questionnaire stating their preferences for both the style and site of the bandstand.

In addition, Fenland District Council is delivering information and a questionnaire to every home adjoining West End Park and sending the information to anyone who has performed in the park in recent times.

Cllr Peter Murphy, Portfolio Holder with responsibility for parks, said: "A bandstand is a wonderful focal point in a park and it would be a tremendous asset for local people. It would stimulate interest in performances in the park and give this wonderful open space an added leisure dimension.
