THE family of popular March publican Mick Smith who died suddenly have asked mourners at his funeral not to dress in black and not to take flowers to the church.

Instead they hope regulars attending the funeral next Friday at 10am at St Peter's Church, March, will give a donation to MAGPAS, the medical charity which provides emergency roadside relief .

Mr Smith, 58, was landlord of the Acre for many years pub but was taken ill on Friday and rushed to Peterborough District Hospital where he later died.

He was described by friends this week as very much a family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife Patricia, known as Trish, as well as brother Raymond, daughter Nicola German and son in law Richard German.

Laura Compton, regional manager of Greene King, said: "We would like to offer our deepest sympathy to Patricia and the family.

"Michael was a well respected and long serving licensee of Greene King and the Acre pub. He will be sadly missed by his regulars and all those that worked with him."

Donations in memory of Mr Smith can be sent to George James and Son funeral directors.
