Pupils at Glebelands Primary School in Chatteris will soon be enjoying a splashing time after winning second prize in MP Steve Barclay’s Read to Succeed campaign.
Year five children won a private pool party at the George Campbell Leisure Centre in March after taking part in the campaign which encouraged youngsters to read at least six books during the summer holidays.
The Glebelands pupils returned the second highest number of Read to Succeed tokens after taking part in the summer reading challenge. First prize of free family tickets to a special screening of The BFG at the Light Cinema in Wisbech was won by pupils at Thomas Eaton Primary School in Wimblington.
Mr Barclay visited the school together with Phil Hughes, head of leisure services at Fenland District Council and Councillor Michelle Tanfield, portfolio holder, who helped organise the prize.
Mr Barclay said: “I hope all the pupils had a fantastic time discovering new books with the Summer Reading Challenge and enjoy their swimming session.”
