A primary school was paid a visit by Vikings bearing artefacts, weaponry and armoury.

Year 5 pupils from Park Lane Primary and Nursery School in Whittlesey have been studying the Vikings, so the school decided there would be no better way to bring the topic to life than inviting along members of Viking re-enactment group Clan Wulfhar.

All the children researched and assembled a Viking outfit which they wore on the day.

In the afternoon a grand banquet was held where the children tasted traditional Viking foods and drink.

The day culminated in a full scale battle between the visiting Vikings which left the children amazed.

Tracey Sandhu, Year 5 teacher at Park Lane, said: “This was the perfect opportunity to consolidate the children’s knowledge and understanding at the end of their topic.

“Being able to actively take part and fully immerse themselves in Viking ways really brings history to life.

“At the end of the day, the children were bubbling with excitement and couldn’t wait to tell their families and friends about everything they had experienced in their fantastic day.

“Our thanks must go to the Friends of Park Lane School for sponsoring this event.”
