SLIPPERY, slimy, squiggly earthworms have been causing a stir at Cavalry Primary School, thanks to reception class teacher Fiona Davis.
Mrs Davis has been teaching pupils at the March school about minibeasts including spiders, ladybirds and ants, but when she tried to find a book about earthworms to show the children she drew a blank. So she decided to do her own research and put together a Powerpoint presentation for the children.
Before long, Mrs Davis answered a call for help from another teacher who was looking for information on earthworms through the Times Educational Supplement and e-mailed her presentation.
Now more than 100 people across the country and abroad are using Mrs Davis' presentation for their own minibeasts lessons.
"I have been very surprised at the number of people interested in the earthworms presentation", said Mrs Davies, who has been teaching at Cavalry for 11 years.
A term's work is devoted to minibeasts, culminating in an Ugly Bug Ball on July 12. The two reception classes will dress up as insects and the song Ugly Bug Ball will be sung in assembly.
