The BBC says no offence was intended after local radio presenter Dotty McCleod made a reference to former minister Sir Michael Fallon during her breakfast show.

The BBC Cambridgeshire presenter was nearing the end of her morning show today when she played Shania Twain’s ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” top ten classic.

As the record – which contains lyrics such as ‘the best thing about being a woman is the prerogative to have a little fun’- ended Dotty used Fallon’s resignation to add a topical comment.

“Of course the best thing about being a woman 15 years ago was having Michael Fallon put his hand on your knee,” she chirped before moving onto a chat with fellow BBC presenter Chris Mann.

Dotty’s aside – a reference to Sir Michael Fallon’s shock departure from Government- has not bothered her BBC bosses.

David Harvey, Editor of BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, said: “No offence was intended.”

The story about Sir Michael Fallon broke after it was revealed that he had inappropriately put his hand on a female journalist’s leg 15 years ago.

Julie Hartley-Brewer, the journalist touched by the MP, said no one was remotely upset or distressed by what had happened to her.

She recalls telling the MP at the time “calmly and politely” that if he did it again “I would punch him in the face. He withdrew his hand and that was the end of the matter.”
