A Royal Air Force veteran is attempting to set up a branch for ex-National Service airmen in March.

Graham Wesley, who served in the RAF from 1957-9, says the group would meet monthly at the Oliver Cromwell Hotel, go on trips to places of interest and attend official events like the Remembrance Day Parade in London.

Mr Wesley said: “There are three of us from around here who make the trip to Cambridge but it’s a long way.

“If we had a group in March hopefully we would get some more veterans from around here to come along.

“As an organisation we try and help our friends who have fallen on hard times.”

The National Service (Royal Air Force) Association was formed in 2002 by a small group of ex-RAF National Servicemen in the Midlands.

It has grown to 2,400 members, who meet twice yearly at national reunions.
