POLICE raided the Chatteris home of cannabis addict Jason Kirby and found a stash of the drug he has been using since the age of 12.

At Fenland Magistrates' Court, on Wednesday, Kirby, 36, told magistrates he was now determined to kick the habit, and was using a legal drug to help in the fight.

The court heard that Kirby spent £110 on the drug every fortnight, but since the raid he had sought counselling and had stopped smoking the class C drug.

"I am glad I have been caught. It has woken me up and made me realise I can't stay like this," he told the court.

Kirby, of New Road, Chatteris, admitted possessing 24,3 grams of cannabis on June 6. He was fined £150, with £60 costs and a £15 surcharge. The drugs will be forfeited and destroyed.
