A PROMINENT railway author is calling for Wisbech to be reconnected to the national rail network via March.

David Henshaw, in his new book, ‘The Great Railway Conspiracy’, argues that reopening the Wisbech line would bring 20,000 people within easy reach of a regular train service, with commuter links on to Peterborough and Cambridge.

The former editor of A to B and Minature Railways magazines says the move would help cut road congestion.

He said: “It should never have closed in the first place.

“Reinstatement would be relatively cheap, as the line is mothballed, and it would bring 20,000 people within easy reach of a regular rail service.”
