The event, on Sunday April 2, will see visitors “travel back in time to its ancient medieval past, when the Abbey was the beating heart of the village,” said organiser Ann Cuthbert.

“Then investigate its 200 year rural history, its Georgian and Victorian heritage, and find out the role Ramsey and its townsfolk played in the Second World War.

“Ramsey rams will be hidden throughout the heritage sites waiting to be discovered, with prizes for those who can find them all.

“The village’s newest attraction, meanwhile, the new club house at the Old Nene Golf and Country Club will be hosting some medieval-themed family fun.”

Amy Brown, one of the organisers, said: “I am looking forward to welcoming visitors on this special heritage Sunday.

“I hope they’ll enjoy our facilities here as they take a pit stop on what looks like a really good Ramsey day out.”

A vintage bus will be ferrying visitors from one site to the other for free. It will be running every hour from 11am until 4pm, starting at the library on the Great Whyte.

Volunteers will be staffing each of the stop-offs, and leaflets will be handed out.

Free parking will be available all day in Ramsey town centre as well as at the Rural Museum and at the 1940s Camp in Wood Lane.

Food will be served at the Rural Museum, the Old Nene Country Club and several pubs in the town centre, as well as tea and cakes at the library.

The Heritage Day runs from 11am until 5pm on Sunday April 2.
