IT'S been a record breaking year at Cromwell Community College, Chatteris, for collecting shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child.

Over the past fortnight pupils have participated in the nation-wide appeal which sends a Christmas parcel in a shoebox to disadvantaged children around the world.

All year groups were involved, with forms throughout the school assembling a minimum of two shoeboxes. The school says pupil response was "magnificent with a staggering 74 shoeboxes being collected by organisers on Friday.

"This is an all time record for the number of shoeboxes collected at Cromwell."

A school spokesman said "pupils had shown great care and understanding with the selection of gifts chosen for each box and had taken it upon themselves to imagine a life with very few comforts. A huge well done!
